Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress

Morris and the Tangerine Dress is a picture book written by Christine Baldacchino and illustrated by Isabelle Malenfant. It was about a boy named Morris. Morris liked to do many activities at school. Once Morris went into the dressing room to try out clothes for girls. Morris found a dress and he wore it around the school. Many people didn’t like his dress so they don’t hang out with him. They even started teasing Morris that he’s a boy and not allowed to wear clothes for girls. Morris pretended The bullying happened for five days. One day Morris got sick on the weekends. Morris was dreaming about animals, the dream made him realized that wearing a dress is pretty cool. On Monday when Morris got back to school, Morris decided to make his own game. Many people joined Morris’s game, and they lived happily ever after. (Well hopefully)

In my opinion, this book is okay, I would rate it 2.5 stars to 3 stars. I say this book is for Grade 1 to 4 since it’s a picture book with barely many words.

One

One is a picture book series written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi. The picture book was talking about a colour blue playing around with his friends and standing up for themselves. Blue liked to play around, especially with other colours except for Red. Red always picked on Blue, but other colours always said good things about Blue. Red usually said, “Red is hot, Blue is not.” That made Blue felt very sad. Once, Blue ignored what Red said about him. Red grew bigger and bigger until everyone was afraid of him. Red started teasing everyone and made every colour felt sad. Especially Blue. One day, One came. One was different than other colours, especially the shape. When One came, every colour started standing up for themselves and everyone started laughing. Red was getting a little sad and telling everyone to stop laughing. But no one stopped laughing. Finally, every colour’s shape was changing. Yellow became two, Green became three, Orange became four, and Purple became five. Red started to become smaller and smaller. Blue came and saw his friends changed their forms. Blue became six. Everyone was having fun except for Red. Red became smaller, and smaller until he was the size of the other colours. Until One said, “Red can count too.” Red felt better and became seven and joins the fun. I think this book was very good. Everyone should learn how to respect themselves and others. If people learn how to respect others, they will respect others and have the ability to make more friends. I say this book is for preschool to Grade four.

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping mall Gorilla

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla is a picture book written by Katherine Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian Karas. The story is about a gorilla named Ivan. Ivan was a baby gorilla that loved to play in the jungle with his family. Ivan swung from vines to vines. Once, Ivan went too far from his family. Ivan was alone and a hunter caught him and another baby gorilla. Ivan and the other gorilla was trapped in damp create for days. Until they arrived in Tacoma, Washington. The two baby gorillas were sold to a man who owned a shopping mall. All the people there treated the baby gorillas nicely. Once, the two gorillas entered a contest. Finally, Ivan was named Ivan. Before he entered the contest Ivan was unnamed. The other baby gorilla was named Burma. One day, Burma died. Ivan was all alone. Finally, until Ivan was 13, he started living in a cage in a mall. Ivan lived inside the cage for 27 years. Finally, the mall administration decided to send Ivan to Zoo Atlanta. Most of the people hoped Ivan will live a better life in Zoo Atlanta. Finally, Ivan arrived at Zoo Atlanta. Many people watched Ivan walking into the gorilla section. Ivan sat on the grass of the zoo and everyone cheered. Ivan was no longer alone. In the gorilla section, there were grass, fresh air, trees, plants, and especially, other gorillas. Today’s picture book was great. It’s talking about a gorilla getting caught and returning to the wild again. It’s sad that Ivan will never see his family or his friend Burma. In the past, it was pretty cruel for animals. It’s still the same now but rarely happen in most places. Many hunters catch wild animals for money and usually for most animals, they live in a cage for the rest of their life after they get sold. Glad to see that most people in this world threat animals with respect. I will rate the picture book a seven out of ten. I say this book is for ages 4-9. Picture books are usually for lower grades, but I think everyone should respect wild animals.

What do you do With an Idea?

What do you do with an Idea is a picture book written by Kobi Yamada and illustrated by Mae Besom. The picture book is 36 pages long.

I think the book “What do you do with an Idea” is a book for ages 4-8. The picture book doesn’t have a lot of words. It includes pictures of every page so it won’t have any space to imagine the things that happen. The sentences in the book are easy to read and the vocabulary in the sentences isn’t very good. I like the book a little bit.

Once, a boy had an idea. He didn’t know what to do with the idea, so he just wants to get rid of it. He felt like other people will laugh at his idea. The boy was right, other people did laugh of his idea. The boy cared in the start, he thought they were right. Then, the boy thought ‘what do other people know? It’s my idea.’ Instead of leaving his idea, he started using his idea. The boy and his idea started to become best friends. Once, the boy’s idea finally grew bigger. One day, it not only changed the boy but also changed the world. The boy wondered what other things his idea will change about.

Chopsticks

Chopsticks is a picture book that was written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon.

The book “Chopsticks” is talking about two chopsticks. The two chopsticks were best friends. They never ever leave each other. Basically, their attached to each other. No one has ever seen them apart. Once, the two best friends were practicing their chopsticks move. During their practice time, one of the chopsticks broke his leg. After Chopstick’s best friend came out of the hospital, Chopstick’s best friend has to rest on his own. Chopstick has to choice but to go on his own. Chopstick manages to have fun with others that aren’t his best friend. Chopstick could finally have fun with others. Later, when his Copstick’s best friend got his leg fixed, they made new ways to hang out with each other, and other people too.

I think this book is pretty good. Chockstick should split up with his best friend for a while. A lot of other people have to do the same. Not everyone has a lot of free time to hang out with their best friend. I think this book is for Grades K-3. A lot of younger children want to stay with their best friend forever, but when they grow up, they won’t have time to hang out with their friends.

SPOON!

Spoon was written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Scott Magoon.

On Sunday, Spoon goes visit his Aunt Silver. Spoon was always on his best behaviour when he visits his aunt. Spoon visits his aunt every Sunday. Once, Spoon was feeling blue. His mother asked what’s wrong, but Spoon said nothing. Spoon thought a lot of other people are better than him. Spoon wanted to share it with his mother. First Spoon talks how Knife is so good and lucky, then Spoon talks about how cool is Fork, and finally Spoon talks about chopsticks how cool they are. Spoon feels he’s not cool or exotic. On the other side, all people were talking about Spoon how cool and exotic he is. Spoon’s mother wanted to talk to Spoon about something. After he realized he could do the things his friends can’t do, he doesn’t feel unlucky anymore.

I think this book is a pretty awesome book. It talks about how people are different from each other. Spoon thought he was different than other people. He always talks about how other people are better than him, but he hasn’t realized that how other people think about him, and how many things he can do. The book could be used on the kids that think they’re different than others. They will realize how he/she could do the same things other people could do. I think this book is for Grade K-5. (4-11 years old)

I used to be a Fish

I Used to be a Fish

The story is about a fish evolving in a human

Author and Illustrator: Tom Sullivan

Once upon a time, there was a fish. The fish was too tired to swim. The fish grew some legs so he has the ability to walk and breath on land. When he’s out of the water and on land, he changed even more. Now he’s an amphibian. He liked walking around and seeing new things, but some of the other creatures feel like eating him. He grew some fur and he learned how to hide from predators. Now he’s a mammal. One day, a volcano erupts and a huge amount of creatures die from the eruption. After the huge eruption, the creature changed more and more. Finally, he became a monkey. He loves to swing around trees and eating bananas. Then he bigger and bigger till he loses his bottom hands and his bottom hands become feet. The monkey was losing fur so he survived in the cave. Finally, the monkey lost all his fur. The cave wasn’t warm enough for him so he built a hut. Then he thought the hut was too small, so he built a house. He was kind of tired of building so he decided to rest for a while. After his nap, he starts building a society. After he built his society, he wonders what will happen next…

I think his story was very good. The story is actually a very good way to teach evolution. (Even though it’s not true) I rate this story a 5/10 because I was wondering ‘how could a fish evolve into a human?’ I knew this was fake but in my opinion, it is kind of for primary grades.

Bat’s game

Bat’s Big Game

Retold by: Margaret Read MacDonald

Illustrator: Eugenia Nobati

The Animals and the Birds are having a ball game. Animals came to the field first with uniforms with a great big A. After the animals put their uniforms on, they start practicing. A few minutes later, the birds arrived at the other end of the field. The Birds wore a uniform with a big B on it. Both teams are now ready for the ball game. The Birds were cheering for themselves and the Animals were also cheering for themselves.

While the two teams were cheering for themselves, Bats flew over the field. Bats thoughts were, ‘look at those birds, what a scrawny lot. Look at these animals! Strong and fast! I’m gonna join their team!’ The Bat land in front of the Animals. And said, “Hey there mates, where’s my uniform?” The Animals saw Bat has wings so they thought he was a bird. Since Bat showed them his teeth, the Animals gave him a uniform with a huge letter A on it. Bat shouted, “YEAH!!!! IM ON THE WINNING TEAM!!!”

After Bat shouted, the game started. Every time the Animals tried to kick the ball into the goal, the Birds snatched it and kicked the ball into their net. Bat was just spectating the game. He finally realized that he was on the losing team, not the winning team. So Bat took his uniform with the big letter A and asked the Birds if he could join their team. The Birds let him joined their team and Bat played on the bird’s side. When Bat joined the Birds, the Animals were winning. Bat joined each team all over again. While each team was winning, Bat joined the winning team, and when the winning team is losing, Bat joined the other winning team.

Finally, a Rhino on the Animal team said, “Did anyone recognized this Bat? He’s doing nothing but switching teams.” A member of the Birds team replied, “Yeah, he’s ruining our game.” Bat’s feelings got hurt and mumbled, “I… I just want to be on the winning team…” Rhino replied, “Well, a good teammate always stay on their team. Looks like you’re on neither of our sides.”

Bat was depressed and he walked away. After some time, he starts practicing with a ball.

I think this book was pretty good. I would rate this book a 7/10 because this book helps you make friends. A good teammate never leaves their team, and a bad teammate always joins the winning team.

I think this book is for 3-8 years olds because the book has fewer words and a lot of pictures. This book is way too easy for intermediate students.

Enemy Pie

Enemy Pie

Author: Derek Munson                                  Illustrator: Tara Calahan King

There was a neighbourhood kid who likes to hang out in his treehouse.  During the summer, his dad helped him built a treehouse. His sister was at camp for three weeks. But there’s something that has been bothering him. Jeremy Ross, his worse enemy moved into his neighbourhood. Every day he lost a baseball game, Jeremy Ross always laughs at him. He was mostly being very mean at him. He once had a trampoline party, and everyone in the neighbourhood is invited to his trampoline party. Expect for the kid. He asked his dad ‘he wants to get rid of his enemy.’ His dad knows a lot about enemies. His dad said, “I know a lot about enemies. The best way to get rid of your enemy is to make an enemy pie.” “Enemy pie?” The kid replied. “Yes. Enemy pie.” His dad replied. The first time the kid heard the word ‘enemy pie’ was to make Jeremy eat the pie and very bad things will happen to him. His dad also said, “the way that enemy pie works are that you have to hang out with your enemy for at least one day. And finally, at dinner, your enemy will eat the enemy pie.” The kid didn’t want to hang out with his enemy at all, but if he wants to get rid of his enemy he has no choice. The kid knocked on Jeremy’s door and said, “do you wanna play together?” Jeremy was very surprised to see the kid at the door but anyway Jeremy replied, “sure, I will ask my mom.” Jeremy’s mom said yes and they played together. They have been playing with each other until dinner time. Jeremy was having dinner at the kid’s house. They had a good meal, then they will have the enemy pie for dessert. The kid felt that Jeremy was beginning to become his friend so he didn’t want him to eat the enemy pie. The kid said, “DON’T EAT THAT!!! Bad things will happen to you like your hair will fall off.” Jeremy replied, “if bad things happen to you then why has your dad eaten half of it already?” The kid realized that the enemy pie wasn’t poisonous at all. They all ate the pie together. Finally, they hang out with each other until bedtime.

I think this book is for age 4-8. (Preschool-Grade 3) I think it’s for these kinds of kids because they mostly don’t know how to handle enemies. The book also has many pictures and fewer words so I think it is too easy for middle and high school students.

I would rate this book 7/10 because  the book could teach you how to make your enemy your friend.

Hey Little Ant

Hey Little Ant is a book about a boy wants to step on the ant. The ant talked to the boy and said, “please don’t step on me, I am innocent. I just want to deliver some food.” “Really?’ replied the boy, “you look like an innocent ant, but I am big and you are small. I like to step on annoying and tiny creatures like you.” The ant replied, “what did I do to you? Other ants probably bothered you but we didn’t. So, please don’t step on us.” “Fine” replied the boy, “but me and my friends’ steps on ants, and it’s our decision to keep you alive or not.”

I think the story is pretty good. The boy let the ant live.

I think the story is for 3-7 years old. People that age doesn’t know how to respect a lot of people.
