Bat’s Big Game
Retold by: Margaret Read MacDonald
Illustrator: Eugenia Nobati
The Animals and the Birds are having a ball game. Animals came to the field first with uniforms with a great big A. After the animals put their uniforms on, they start practicing. A few minutes later, the birds arrived at the other end of the field. The Birds wore a uniform with a big B on it. Both teams are now ready for the ball game. The Birds were cheering for themselves and the Animals were also cheering for themselves.
While the two teams were cheering for themselves, Bats flew over the field. Bats thoughts were, ‘look at those birds, what a scrawny lot. Look at these animals! Strong and fast! I’m gonna join their team!’ The Bat land in front of the Animals. And said, “Hey there mates, where’s my uniform?” The Animals saw Bat has wings so they thought he was a bird. Since Bat showed them his teeth, the Animals gave him a uniform with a huge letter A on it. Bat shouted, “YEAH!!!! IM ON THE WINNING TEAM!!!”
After Bat shouted, the game started. Every time the Animals tried to kick the ball into the goal, the Birds snatched it and kicked the ball into their net. Bat was just spectating the game. He finally realized that he was on the losing team, not the winning team. So Bat took his uniform with the big letter A and asked the Birds if he could join their team. The Birds let him joined their team and Bat played on the bird’s side. When Bat joined the Birds, the Animals were winning. Bat joined each team all over again. While each team was winning, Bat joined the winning team, and when the winning team is losing, Bat joined the other winning team.
Finally, a Rhino on the Animal team said, “Did anyone recognized this Bat? He’s doing nothing but switching teams.” A member of the Birds team replied, “Yeah, he’s ruining our game.” Bat’s feelings got hurt and mumbled, “I… I just want to be on the winning team…” Rhino replied, “Well, a good teammate always stay on their team. Looks like you’re on neither of our sides.”
Bat was depressed and he walked away. After some time, he starts practicing with a ball.
I think this book was pretty good. I would rate this book a 7/10 because this book helps you make friends. A good teammate never leaves their team, and a bad teammate always joins the winning team.
I think this book is for 3-8 years olds because the book has fewer words and a lot of pictures. This book is way too easy for intermediate students.
