The Noisy Paint Box: The Colours and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art is a picture book written by Barb Rosenstock and illustrated by Mary Grandpre.

The picture book was talking about a Russian boy named Vasya who studied all day long. Until one day, his aunt gave him a wooden paint box. His aunt said every proper boy should appreciate art. Vasya started mixing colors of his paint box and he heard hissing sounds. Then it sounded like an orchestra tuning up. Vasya started painting. Then he showed his family his art. Vasya’s family said he should take art classes. Years later, Vasya studied to be a lawyer. Even though years had passed, he can still hear the music of his childhood. One day, Vasya attended the opera and the colors twirled wildly in his mind. Over time, Vasya quit lawing and decided to be a painter. In the end, he became a good artist and became famous (not exactly).

Once, my family taught me how to be a proper Asian kid. Since we’re in Canada, I refused to be a proper Asian kid with our own culture. Instead, I accepted Canadian culture.

Wanted the Perfect Pet

Wanted the Perfect Pet is a picture book written and illustrated by Fiona Roberton.

The book began with a boy named Henry. Henry wanted something more than possibly everything. Henry wanted a dog more than anything in the world, he always dreamed of having a dog. Henry had 27 types of frogs but he didn’t like them. Once, Henry decided to advertise. Once, there was a duck. Nobody ever wrote to him, he always did activities by himself. He was always spending time with himself, it was getting boring. Finally, the duck found Henry’s advertisement. Henry wanted a dog and the duck thought of a disguise. Once the duck arrived at Henry’s with the disguise, he will finally have a friend. Once the duck arrived at Henry’s house, Henry was very excited to see a dog (he didn’t know it was a duck). Over time, Henry taught the duck tricks, but the duck wasn’t so good at learning. Once, the duck revealed himself that he wasn’t a dog, but an actual duck. Henry was disappointed. Over time, Henry taught the duck some tricks that ducks will do. The duck was finally getting the hang of it. Henry thought the duck he had wasn’t an ordinary duck. Henry decided to call the duck “Spoty” and they lived happily, ever, after.

Once when I was about 4 years old, I wanted a dog very badly. My mom thought we can have a pet so we got a puppy about 3 or 4 months old. I was very happy when I had a dog. Once, my parents went to get a collar and my brother was sent to take care of our new house, the puppy, and me. My brother was too busy worrying about his video games until the puppy escaped. Before I even decide a name for my puppy, he was already lost. It made me very sad. One of the connections I can make between the story and what actually happened is that we both asked for a dog. We bother begged for a dog. Even though we had a dog for a while, our opportunities with our dogs were lost for a few days.

How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again

After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again is a picture book written and illustrated by Dan Santat. The book was about an egg named Humpty Dumpty. Once, Humpty Dumpty fall off from a great huge wall. Humpty Dumpty was eventually patched and repaired over time. Even though some cracks are still visible since the glue and bandages were used to put him back together. Ever since Humpty Dumpty falls off the wall, he started to be afraid of heights. Humpty Dumpty went on the streets to watch the birds. Then, he started making planes. He was usually failing while making the planes until he had finally made a successful plane. Once, Humpty Dumpty’s plane flew over the wall he fall off from. Humpty Dumpty was scared, but he climbed to the wall eventually. Until then, Humpty Dumpty was no longer afraid of heights and he was starting to hatch. Until he transformed into a bird and learned how to fly. For the connection I can make, it reminds me of my childhood. When I was a baby I can’t talk, walk, or anything. Until I can walk, talk, etc.

There

The story was about a little girl that wondered what the future holds. The little girl was trying to find a place called “There”. She wondered how long will she get there and the changes when she’s there. Especially the knowledge she got and what does “There” looks like. She wondered how many people went there. After thinking and deciding, the little girl decided to go to “There” tomorrow. I say this picture was pretty good. If I have to rate this book of a scale from one to ten I have to rate a seven. This picture book should fit for Kindergarten to Grade 2.

Enemy Pie (Connections)

Enemy Pie is a picture book written by Derek Munson and illustrated by Margaret Read McDonald. The book is talking about an unnamed boy and his enemy Jeremy Ross. Once, the boy asked his dad about enemies. The boy’s dad said he knew a lot about enemies. The boy’s dad started making a pie, what he called “enemy pie”. The problem is that the boy had to hang out with Jeremy, especially he had to be nice to him. Over time, the boy and Jeremy hanged out for the entire day and became friends. Once the boy and Jeremy went home for dinner. Til dessert, the two buddies and the boy’s dad ate the enemy pie for dessert. The pie that his dad made wasn’t enemy pie after all, turned out it tasted very good. Some of my events in real life can possibly connect to the story. Once, I had an enemy too. I asked my mom how I can get rid of my enemy. My mom said the only thing to do to avoid an enemy was to stay away from him. My dad said I should hang out with my enemy and try to turn him to a good kid. There was no way I was gonna hang out with my enemy. Since my enemy’s parents are friends with my parents, I thought I possibly can trust my enemy. In the end, we became friends. Sadly, I haven’t communicated with my friend for a while.

Kindness Blog 2

On Sunday I went to my best friend Hilaire and Marceau’s birthday party. We went to Extreme Airpark with two other people. When we were in the dodge ball area, my teammates are getting hit by balls since the other team is aiming for them. Since I’m holding a big amount of balls, I supported my teammates with rubber balls that they could use. They thanked me and I felt happy.

Kindness 1

Once I was going on a trip with my family. On the third day of our vacation, we met another family. The other family wants the way to the tourist area. My mom does know the location of the tourist area but she doesn’t know how to speak English. Instead, I show them the location. I haven’t remembered much about the trip since it was a while ago.

Two

Two is a book written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi. It’s talking about a number called Two. Two’s best friend is One. Once, other numbers wanted One to hang out with them, that made Two felt sad. One was hanging out with Three since they’re both odd numbers. Two’s heartfelt sick and began to crack. The even numbers came to comfort Two. Finally, a fight started between the odd and even numbers. Zero and Two were the only ones that didn’t join the fight. Zero says Two can make all this right again. Two went to all the numbers and made a speech for her friends. Two finally ended the fight and everyone started dancing. In my opinion, this book is pretty great. It’s just talking about numbers getting into a fight and resolving everything. It’s basically almost the same thing as the picture book called “One” but in my opinion, One is a better picture book. I say the book is for Kindergarten to Grade 4.

Alfred Nobel the Man Behind

Alfred Nobel the Man Behind the Peace Prize is written by Kathy-Jo Wargin and illustrated by Zachary Pullen.

Alfred was a man from Sweden. Born in the 19th century.

Alfred Nobel once accidentally dropped a hammer and a huge explosion on an anvil. Alfred discovered a liquid that could cause explosions. Alfred called it nitroglycerin. Alfred needed to share this liquid he called nitroglycerin with his family. Once, Alfred’s brother, Ludvig wanted to test nitroglycerin. Emil said he could invent somethings with nitroglycerin. Including weapons and tools. Alfred thought it was a good idea so he let Emil use nitroglycerin. One day, the nitroglycerin exploded and destroyed a small hut. Five people were in the hut and they all died. Including Emil. Alfred felt very guilty after Emil’s death. Two years later after Emil’s death, Alfred was being judged massively. Over time, Alfred still continued his job and everyone is now neutral.
