The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art is a picture book written by Barb Rosenstock and illustrated by Mary Grandpre.
The picture book was talking about a Russian boy named Vasya who studied all day long. Until one day, his aunt gave him a wooden paint box. His aunt said every proper boy should appreciate art. Vasya started mixing colors of his paint box and he heard hissing sounds. Then it sounded like an orchestra tuning up. Vasya started painting. Then he showed his family his art. Vasya’s family said he should take art classes. Years later, Vasya studied to be a lawyer. Even though years had passed, he can still hear the music of his childhood. One day, Vasya attended the opera and the colors twirled wildly in his mind. Over time, Vasya quit lawing and decided to be a painter. In the end, he became a good artist and became famous (not exactly).
Once, my family taught me how to be a proper Asian kid. Since we’re in Canada, I refused to be a proper Asian kid with our own culture. Instead, I accepted Canadian culture.
